Okanagan Lavender

Okanagan Lavender Herb Farm, Kelowna, BC Okanagan Lavender Herb Farm, Kelowna, BC

Okanagan Lavender is a working family farm growing both lavender and wine grapes.  It is operated by David and Andrea McFadden, whose family have been farming in Kelowna since 1908.  In 1994, the McFaddens removed a ¼ acre of apple orchard to plant a test block of lavender and begin researching the growing and processing of this herb as a commercial crop.  Today that planting has expanded into 3 separate fields currently totalling 2½ acres – one at the gift shop, on field from drying and one for distilling.  The entire crop is managed by hand:  hoed; cut with sickles; bundled for drying; stripped and then processed on-site into unique culinary, home and bath products.  The products are designed, tested and sold through the farm’s seasonal gift shop.  We also do year round mail order and products are available at select retail outlets across Canada .

Open April through the end of September, Okanagan Lavender offers an informative self-guided walking tour displaying a collection of 60 varieties of lavender showing a colour range of white, pink and blue with a variety of plant sizes from dwarf to extra large.  Come to the farm and pick your own lavender bouquet or visit our gift show featuring the products made from our locally grown and distilled lavender.  We offer classes in lavender wreath making, lavender wand weaving, vine and willow sculpture and water colour painting.  Classes require pre-registration.

Group tours are welcome at Okanagan Lavender and must be pre-booked.  Groups may choose from four options including:  guided tours; Lavender lemonade and scone picnic; learning to propagate lavender plants and learning to weave lavender wands.  In order to make the experience enjoyable for everyone, we do not accept any unreserved group tours or any group tours during our Harvest Festival.

Each year we host a 4-day Lavender Harvest Festival offering guided tours at no charge; lavender culinary delights; wine tastings; lavender wand and wreath making, propagation and presentation bouquet workshops and our ever popular lavender u-pick.  Peals join us July 8, 9, 10 & 11, 2005 to partake in the festivities.

The farm is located in beautiful South Kelowna offering panoramic views of Okanagan Lake and the surrounding mountains. We are pleased to accommodate event planners organizing outings for conference attendees and can customize our classes to a particular group’s interest.  To find us, turn south on Gordon Drive off of Highway 97 and follow the blue highways signs to the end of Takla Road, just off of Bedford Road.  Maps are available on our website.
