National Geographic Adventure magazine has included Okanagan adventure on its list of the World's 25 Best New Adventures for 2007.
"Cycling the Okanagan Valley" is offered by Austin-Lehman Adventures out of Montana and billed as "a heady mix of snowcapped mountains, deep cobalt lakes, and fertile wine country, Canada's Okanagan Valley" that has yet to be discovered by most Americans, says the magazine, "offering guests a chance to preview the wines of the region and sample the endless biking and hiking trails that crisscross its semiarid landscape--before the word gets out."
The trip was brought to market thanks in part to the contribution of the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association, and the CTC's director of leisure sales development in Seattle, Ken Erickson: "We helped develop this as a multi-adventure package that includes the biking, kayaking, and wine tasting. It starts at the Big White ski resort outside of Kelowna and works its way up the Okanagan Valley in multiple disciplines of outdoor activities. Austin-Lehman has published 3 departures in its 2007 catalogue."
Participants will cycle routes that trace the shore of 565-square-kilometer Okanagan Lake, ascend through high-altitude pine forests and granite tunnels, and end in vine-covered foothills dotted with wineries and features overnight stays at Manteo Resort, Naramata Heritage Inn, Spirit Ridge Vineyard Resort & Spa and Summerland Waterfront Resort.
The National Geographic Adventure magazine's annual report is touted as survey of innovative trips that will broaden travellers' perspective, push their limits, and reignite their sense of possibility, something that is much sought after as the world is changing by the minute. "Get out and see it now," it concludes.
